Independent 30th Anniversary Tour

It’s rare for a company in any industry to successfully last especially when the market expands and the competition grows. In skateboarding, it is particularly difficult to find success when your sponsored riders are hard to market. For instance, my very first skateboard had a graphic of Bruce Lee on it. I forgot what brand it was since it was so long ago (’80s), but one of the neighborhood kids was sponsored by that brand. Anyway, he went off to become a chemist at the University of San Diego and quit skating. Soon after, that team went under.
Then there’s the team known as Menace, part of World Industries (’90s). They were actually one of my favorite teams back in the day. Their section of the World video was one of the most memorable. It opened to Method Man’s “Release Yo’ Delf” while the team beat up some kid at Lockwood. Unfortunately the team also went under. Probably due to Joey Surrel’s curly locks.
So it’s pretty amazing to hear that Independent Trucks have lasted 30 years in a sport that’s had its ups and downs. Forty of the team’s riders will embark on an epic ten city tour fully equipped with BBQ, parties, and skate demos. Check out the press release below for all the info.
Independent Truck Company and NHS are proud to present the Independent 30th Anniversary Tour, supported by RedBullSkateboarding.com, May 23rd through July 4th, 2008.
This summer over 40 Independent Trucks team riders, traveling in shifts, will embark on a nationwide US tour alongside the custom built Independent 1941 Ford Pickup. The tour will be stopping at 10 locations for skate jams, BBQs, and parties celebrating over 30 years of making the world’s best skateboard trucks.
So come out and jam with the team at the following locations or maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of them as they haul ass in-between towns destroying whatever spots they can get their trucks on.
For more information including each location’s team roster, dates and times, directions, and updates from the road log onto 30thTour.IndependentTrucks.com.
