xboards.jpgxboards.jpgIf you grew up in the eighties/nineties like I did and were really into video games, you probably remember how you felt the first time you saw the film “The Wizard” starring Fred Savage and the chick from that band Rilo Kiley. I can remember vividly how frozen and in awe I was while the character named Lucas in Sergio Leoni fashion pulled out from a fake stainless steel briefcase a new Nintendo gadget called “The Powerglove” With a few flicks of the wrist, he was able to maneuver his “328 Twin Turbo” from the game “Rad Racer” into victory. At that moment, I knew I had just witnessed the awesomest thing ever in the history of things.

Then the commercial came out for the Power Glove. When Tom Cruise started busting up Bald Bull in the last sequence of the commercial, I nearly flipped. I bugged my dad for an entire week until he bought it for me.

Of course I got it and at that moment, I knew that my life was complete. That was until I plugged it in. I first started with “Mike Tyson’s Punch Out” because of course with a glove, it seems fitting. Well as you may know, the first opponent on that game is Glass Joe. Nobody ever loses to Glass Joe. Nobody. That is until you play with the Power Glove. I lost to him for the first time in my life. All I could remember was how my punches were not getting thrown and if they did, they were tiny weak little jabs. And as you probably know if you too were duped by the awesomeness of the Power Glove, it didn’t work with many games and was a complete waste of money. So instead I just wore it to school to look cool. But I have to admit, Nintendo had just pulled off the greatest marketing ploy ever.

That is why I will never promote a video game gimmick again. Especially the X-Box Skateboard controller. It looks like a waste of money and there is no way you can ollie with that thing. Apparently all it’s good for is airs and getting injured. So buy it at your own risk!!
