Tony Hawk’s Foundation Does Good

Its great to see how long a way skateboarding has come. I remember the days when skateboarding at the Vons parking lot got you a ticket and confrontations with people like Officer Rivieri were the norm. The days when kids would have nowhere to skate so they would band together at City Hall to plead with their elected officials to build a skate park for them just to have them turned away. Those were the days.
Luckily a lot of the skaters from that time have grown up and now they are leading the charge for skateboard justice. Tony Hawk’s Skateboard Foundation helps low-income communities build skate parks for the kiddies in hopes to stir them away from trouble. Tony’s foundation has raised over $2,000,000 and is in the works awarding 29 communities grants worth $255,000 for the construction of new skate parks.
If we had something like this a decade ago, a lot less kids would have been involved with pot, gangs, and 40’s while on the streets.
