Advances In Video Technology

Aren’t advances in technology great?  Especially when skateboarding adopts the technology and integrates it into the production of skate videos.  Like the discovery of a proper editing bay.  The use of VCR to VCR editing got a little annoying after a while when you could see the rainbow colored lines running up and down your screen while watching an H-Street video.  Or do you remember the very first 3-D skate video?  I’m not exactly sure who made it (I think it was Nickelodeon) but it caused many kids including myself to vomit and possibly go into a seizure.

Just recently the addition of Hi-Def to skate videos makes regular video look like crap.  If you’re like me and have watched the Lakai video over 50 times, then I dare you to watch a video shot five years ago.  The quality looks horrible and is reminiscent of the first time I watched “Faces Of Death” for the first time in 1993.

Now technology may be running at a faster rate than ever with the introduction of the Red Digital Camera.  This thing is supposed to be the first ever 35mm quality digital video with the reliable performance of a digital camera.  It has an option of several lenses and best of all, it’s cheap.  So if Red would like to send me a camera, I guess I can find some time out of my busy schedule to try it out.

Check out a little demo here shot by RB Umali.  I can see Creature or Deathwish skateboards doing a film like this.
