Day 2 At The Sri Lankan Airlines Pro
June 10, 2008 – 4:36 pm PT by MeTags: ASP, Mark Mathews, Mick Campbell —
It was another beautiful day on Pasta Point in Sri Lanka with a great setting for the ASP World Qualifying Series 6-Star Prime with ideal waves ranging from four to six feet for the remaining surfers in the competition. It was Mick Campbell of Australia who dominated the day by scoring two excellent scores with a 8.67 and a 8.17 and beat his fellow countryman Mark Mathews in the opening round two heat.
The former world No. 2 is loving the Maldives and appeared both confident and relaxed after his win today saying, “No pressure on myself here, I love it, all the pressure is for the other guys not me. The waves are pumping and in this climate you just love surfing. I’ve made the semi’s here a few years ago and it would be good to go one better.”
Eight heats of round two were completed today with excellent conditions expected tomorrow with 16 more heats to complete the 2nd round.
