Day 3 At The Sri Lankan Airlines Pro

Day three at the Sri Lankan Airlines Pro proved to be the best day yet as offshore winds made for consistent and powerful four to six foot waves at the ASP World Qualifying Series 6-Star Prime. The most prominent surf runs of the day came from Jay Thompson (AUS), Torrey Meister (HAW), Kekoa Balcalso (HAW), Nathan Yoemans (USA), Dustin Barca (HAW), Bernardo Miranda (BRA), Drew Courtney (AUS), Adam Robertson (AUS) and Hizunome Bettero (BRA) were just a sample of the big hitters who finished off the Round 2 heats.
The two highest scored heats came from Aussie youngster Matt Wilkinson’s 18.83, which included a perfect 10 and Brazilian Hizunome Bettero with a 17.83. Unfortunately last year’s winner Heitor Alves of Brazil and fellow finalist Jarrad Howse were eliminated.
“The Maldives is amazing. Waves are so perfect and when you sit out the back in the heat and the sets are coming you are filled with excitement knowing you’re getting a perfect wave and you just have to score big. It’s the best event for me for sure, I love it here”, said Bettero.
