After a disappointing day for the ASP’s top seeded surfers by being eliminated, the waves were at its best in Pitanguerias Beach in Guaruja Brazil. It was the local surfers Wilson Nora and Leandro Bastos who showed their home court advantage by earning the highest scores. Hizunome Bettero of Brazil who is the current ASP points leader will have his ranking jeopardized if fellow Brazilian Raoni Monteiro wins at the 5-Star Local Motion Guaruja Surf.
“I’m doing my job, step by step, the pressure is on,” Monteiro said. “Let’s face tomorrow. It’s hard to find a second wave. I’ve only got one good wave per hit and I have to improve. I need two good ones to keep going. I’m keeping cool, the board is good and I’ll charge. I want to taste victory again and hope to reach the final here. It’s still far and I have to take it easy, as the rounds are getting harder. The level is high. It’s not easy.”
Monteiro is the lone surfer of the remaining 24 who has a chance at claiming the 1st place position in the ASP points race.
