I don’t follow sports that much but I’m willing to bet that any association’s draft day is pretty exciting.  More excited are those being drafted.  Like I was watching a bit of the NBA draft the other day and after the player got drafted, their families started to jump for joy and would start crying.  It was pretty emotional.  The biggest problem with amateurs jumping into the big leagues is their egos.  For example just days after being drafted by the Chicago Bulls, number one pick Derrick Rose already got into trouble with the law when he was charged last night for driving 106 mph in a 65 zone.  I pray for his soul.

I don’t expect to see that kind of behavior from amateur skaters going pro.  They’ve already caused all the trouble they could as kids in the street with skateboards.  They’ve already thrown gotten thrown down by policeman (Officer Rivieri), stole their parents car to go skating or meet up with a fly honey, or even been to prison for skating on a freeway.  Being in trouble with the law is no new thing for the younins are skateboards.

So the exposure that these Sun Diego Slam Am events are giving to the amateurs is pretty amazing but I’m sure it’s not going to their heads.  Check out this press release from the Sun Diego Am Slam and check out how well these soon to be pros are doing.

Stop 2 of Sun Diego’s AmSlam skate contest series went down this past Saturday at the Chula Vista Skatepark.  All the usual suspects were in attendance as well as a few new faces.  Brendan Villanueva has been making some new fans the past few weekends at Sun Diego events. He won the 13 and Under Division at Stop 1 of the AmSlam, came out the next weekend and won the Best Trick at our Go Skateboarding Day event, and was back on Saturday to claim another 1st. Brendan leads the Points Totals in the 13 and Under Division.

Dolan Sterns leads in the 14-16 Division, with Cody Hale and Joe Steckdaub hot on his heels. Nick Tucker holds the top spot in the 17 and Over Division with a 2nd Place at Stop 1 and a 1st at Stop 2.

The skating in the Open Division was top notch and the top 3 spots really could have gone in any order.  DavidCobb, Diego Najera and Jake Hill all put together super solid and near flawless runs. Diego is a machine and easily could have taken his second AmSlam win, but Cobb was able to impress the judges by utilizing the whole course, as well as skating the whole contest on a Krooked Zip Zinger board. I guess nobody told him the Zip Zingers are for cruising and not backside flipping double sets. Cobb took this one, but Diego is the far and away Points Leader in the Open Division.

Sun Diego wishes to thank all the Sponsors of the AmSlam Series, especially Lost and Transworld.  Check back tomorrow for photos and video from Stop 2.  And sign up now for Stop 3 happening at the Encinitas YMCA on July 13th!
