Ryan Sheckler Breaks His Arm; Will Continue to Compete

Apparently Ryan Sheckler has broken his arm mere days before the Maloof Money Cup takes place. The Cup will feature skateboarding’s largest payout — more than $100K for the winner of the street competition alone — and despite his injury Sheckler will still show up.
Skateboard.com, which will be webcasting the Maloof Money Cup, by now, reports that a source said, “multiple breaks to the arm have caused a bone chip to be a primary source of the continuous dislocations. The recent break has caused ligament damage and will surely force a reason for surgery, or at the very least, a plan for surgery in the near future. He has refused a cast and will compete in the Maloof Money Cup and upcoming DEW Tour in Cleveland, Ohio.” The injury was compared to the one he suffered last year during the AST Dew Tour.
Given that Skateboard.com is run by WMG, the management company that handles the career of “Professional Skateboarder and Reality TV Star” Sheckler, the source should be good — especially since the “article” reads like a press release.
Why does it read like a press release? Well, because of comments like this in the story: “Best of luck to Ryan for a speedy recovery and hopefully it won’t drastically affect is ability at this weeks contest.”
Yes, we do hope a speedy recovery for him, but it’s not likely Sheckler was really going to be a factor this weekend. With skaters like Chris Cole, Greg Lutzka and Nyjah Huston on tap, Sheckler could face results similar to the last few X Games.
One nugget from the press release was the news that “Life of Ryan” starts filming this week with episodes premiering “in the next couple of months.” It goes on to offer helpful information about the the new season, saying it will focus on “skateboarding, parties, contest and friends, rather than the family drama seen in previous seasons.”
We shall see.
