Busy SoCal Weekend: Maloof Money Cup + Red Bull Experiment
July 11, 2008 – 12:53 pm PT by GregTags: AST, Maloof Money Cup, Red Bull, Ronnie Renner, X Games —
If you live in Southern California there are two major events that you can go check out in person this weekend (and if you don’t, they will be webcast).
First off, the Maloof Money Cup kicks off today and carries on through Sunday with more skateboarding than you can shake a stick at. There’s street with pros and AMs, there’s Vert, there’s women, there’s even a Game of SKATE. I’m watching all the practice right now via the live webcast at Skateboard.com (check it out) and it looks good.
The local SoCal press has been going crazy with the Maloof bros (check out this and this) but wait until Sunday when the finals take place… The LA Times story does talk a lot about the MMC in comparison with the AST Dew Tour and X Games, so it’s worth a read.

Another big event is the Red Bull Experiment — you know, that series of record–breaking events that has included Robbie Maddison’s one-time world record (been broken since) and Kevin Robinson’s Central Park record last month? Now it’s Ronnie Renner’s turn to do his best to set a new vertical height record on a motorcycle tonight in Santa Monica. That, too, will be webcast via ESPN (starting at 8 p.m. PT). The jump should take place between 8:00-8:30.
There’s also good info about prepping for the jump at EXPN — on the blog you can also find out about Ryan Capes having to give up on his latest attempt to best the world record of distance jumping…
More about the Red Bull Experiment here…
We’ll tell you what happens for both, but do yourself a favorite and watch them yourself!
