Maloof Money Cup Kicks Off Friday With Prelims

The biggest skateboarding event off the year started Friday as the Maloof Money Cup held prelims for Street and Amateur events.  Twelve skaters, including Nyjah Huston, Tommy Sandoval, Darrell Stanton and Sierra Fellers, made it tom the semi-finals, where they will fight it out with the pre-qualified group.

SKATEBOARDING’S LARGEST PURSE CONTEST, MALOOF MONEY CUP, HAS BEGUN!

Costa Mesa, Calif. – Bottles were poppin’ this morning as Joe Maloof, Pierre Andre Senizergues, Ryan Sheckler, and Jake Brown christened the brand-new Maloof Money Cup Street Course. The preliminary action has been a whirlwind of intense competitors battling it out for a chance to win the big bucks, complete with A-list celebrities in attendance, a live performance by #1 Rapper Tyga, and thousands of people in the etnies Festival Village.

U.S. MEN’S PRO STREET CHAMPIONSHIP PRELIMS:

The Friday evening preliminaries included 24 skaters. Three heats of eight skaters each competed in 10-minute jams with three-minute breaks in-between. The pros really tore the course apart, trying to get into the semi-finals, the first step towards the big cash.. The top 12 skaters to advance to the semi-finals are:

U.S. WOMEN’S PRO STREET CHAMPIONSHIP PRELIMS:

Friday evening’s preliminaries included ten skaters. There were two heats of five skaters each that received two eight-minute jams with a three-minute break in between. The ladies were completely shredding the course, showing everyone that skating is not just for the boys. The top five skaters to advance to the finals are:

THE ORIGINAL éS GAME OF SKATE, PRESENTED BY BOOST MOBILE:

The èS Game of SKATE presented by Boost Mobile kicked off today with the preliminary round of this World Amateur Championship. With 24 of the world’s best coming from Asia, Europe, South America, the South Pacific, and all over North America to compete for one of skateboarding’s most prestigious World Champ titles.

TYGA rocks the party with his #1 hit single “Coconut Juice”

Thousands of people came through the etnies Festival Village, with over 200,000 expected throughout the course of the weekend. Notables in the crowd at the Maloof Money Cup today included Charles Barkley, Danny Granger, The Prince of Saudi Arabia, Travis Barker, Lil John, Tyga, and Mae Andersen.

Tyga took the stage overlooking the street course in front of a large crowd of many hip-hop and skateboarding fans alike. Tyga’s high-energy performance fueled the crowd for more excitement to come on Saturday and Sunday with his single “Coconut Juice,” hot off the heels of his #1 album No Introductions.
