Arktip Issue #47 Featuring Tommy Guerrero
July 22, 2008 – 1:47 am PT by MikeThose of you that are really into art probably already know this but Artip’s issue #47 will be a special one. This will be the first time in the magazine’s history where they will feature one single artist for the entire month’s issue. Now, it must take a very important, and inspiring artist for the magazine to focus all its energy and attention on a single person. So let’s examine who this one lucky person can be.
My initial thought was that it must be someone dead because most artists aren’t very important until they are deceased. And one of my favorite artists who has passed away relatively recent, is Bob Ross. If you’re unaware of the name, I’m sure you know his face, or at least his fro. Bob Norman Ross is widely known for his (fro and) television show titled “The Joy Of Painting” on PBS.
But then my friend informed me that the artist featured is still alive. So my next guess was someone who was alive and important. But also obscure enough to deserve of the Arktip exposure. So my next guess was the amazing performance artist Dan Dunn. With his kind of mystique, it’s hard to believe that he’s not featured in the magazine.
So finally I went and got my issue and to my surprise, it was actually a skater! Tommy Guerrero is one of the most influential people in skateboarding today and not only his art, but his music as well is included in the special edition. Check out the Arktip site for more info and get your hands on this issue.
