The hype that builds around certain athletes before they make it to the big leagues can predict what kind of future they may have.  If you look at guys like Lebron James who now plays for the Cavaliers; if you saw him back eight years ago, you knew that kid had talent, even though he already looked like 45 year old man at age 16.  Or there’s even that kid Freddy Edu who at the tender age of 12 was being eyed by football (soccer) clubs all over the world.  I don’t follow the sport much but I think he now plays for Monaco.  Ironically, he looked like he was already 20 at the age of 13.  I don’t know, I think something fishy is going on here.  I’d check their birth certificates.

Besides the point, I think the skateboarding world will be forced to recognize Brendon Villanueva who at four strait Sun Diego Am Slams, have taken the crown.  For you math wizards out there, that’s 100%.  Hopefully he’s the age he says he is, not that I’m calling him out, but there’s no way Lebron James is the age he says he is.  Check out the press release below for all the details.

“Stop 4 of Sun Diego’s AmSlam Presented by Monster happened this past Saturday, this time at the Escondido Skatepark.  The Escondido park is a bit burlier than some of the other parks in the AmSlam series and I wasn’t sure how well the skaters would adapt.  To my complete surprise, everyone shredded and no part of the park was left untouched. Josh Stoops even grinded the Staples Center hubba which I’m pretty sure has never been done before.  That dude rips and he’s a damn good guy to boot.  Anyway back to the contest.  In the 13 and Under Division, no surprise here, Brendon Villanueva takes his place at the top of the podium for the 4th contest in a row!  Micah Christina slides into 2nd and Will Fyock grabs 3rd. These 3 guys lead in the Points Totals with Brendan in 1st, Will in 2nd, and Micah in 3rd.

No surprises in the 14-16 Division either as Anthony Estrada edges out Dolan Stearns for 1st and Cody Hale finishes third.  Dolan skated this course really well and had some smooth and flawless runs, but Anthony stomped some nice tech tricks including a backside 270 heelflip over the hip.  Dolan still leads the Points Totals with Cody in 2nd and Anthony in 3rd.

In the 17 and Older Division, Stoops and Scooter (Conor Getzlaff) traded place from the last contest with Scooter finishing 1st and Josh in 2nd.  Nick Tucker gets 3rd but still leads in the Points Totals, with Stoops in 2nd and Mark Barnett in 3rd.

The skating in the Open Division was insane as usual, with a newcomer to the AmSlam Series, Dylan Witkin becoming the fist skater to get a PERFECT SCORE from all 3 judges!  Dylan skated every type of obstacle with speed and style and there was no way anyone was gonna beat his first run.  Congrats Dylan, your 1st place finish guarantees your spot in the Finals.  Jake Hill had some great runs as well and finished a well deserved 2nd, with Brendon Villanueva rounding out the podium in third, despite a nasty slam to the wrist. The Points Totlas for the Open Division are as follows: Jake Hill 1st, Diego Najera 2nd, and Nick Tucker 3rd.

Sun Diego thanks Monster Energy, Lost Clothing, and Transworld SKATEboarding, as well as all the other sponsors who provide the great prizes for the series.  Thanks Tim and everyone else at Escondido Sports Center, thanks to all the AmSlam helpers, and thanks to all the kids and parents who have been supporting the AmSlam Contest Series from the beginning.

Stop 5 is August 10th at the O.B. Skatepark, see you there!  Check sundiego.com for all the info.”
