Carmichael Wins Step Up Gold; Villa Leads Moto X Qualifiers

Ricky Carmichael didn’t need a world record to show that he can go higher and better than anyone else. He won the Step Up contest Friday night thanks to clearing 33 feet, while second-place world-record holder Ronnie Renner could only clear 32.
Also on Friday, qualifiers were under way at the Home Depot Center in Carson. Andre Villa led the Moto X Freestyle elimination, while Mike Mason and Todd Potter surprisingly missed the cut. The top four finishers from last year, including winner Adam Jones, have already been prequalified.
Also on Friday, the Speed & Style Elmination took place, and Travis Pastrana returned to his bike for the contest and ended up qualifying first, where he will join Ronnie Renner and Nate Adams, along with five others.
Lastly, for the first time, women’s Moto X racing joined the X Games and Florida’s Jessica Patterson led the qualifying followed by Sherri Cruse of Bakersfield, Calif.
