Before you start jumping into conclusion and despite me living in Los Angeles, no I’m not talking about Manny Ramirez. Not only do I not know who he is, I don’t even know where he came from. The Pirates maybe? Actually, I hate baseball and I think it’s the most boring thing ever. More boring than a live reading of Pride and Prejudice. I just overheard my friends talking about how important he is to the Dodgers.
Also I am not talking about world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao. Despite his quick hands in the boxing ring and regardless of how angelic his singing voice is, I’m not talking about that Manny Mania either. Although, I am a huge fan of his and I hope one day to have a song of his playing in the background of my wedding.
What I’m talking about here is the 2008 Red Bull Manny Mania street contest that took place on a gorgeous, stinkin, nasty, hot day in New York City’s Coleman Park. Red Bull and skateboarding? The only thing that would have made this contest any more extreme is if it took place at Lincoln Park and the band Lincoln Park showed up with spiky hair.
The contest saw some of skateboarding’s sickest manny rippers as they competed for the hefty sum of $10,000 and a huge cup encrusted with rhinestones probably bought from Claire’s. Check out the Red Bull Skateboarding website for a full page of photos and coverage of the event.
