Earlier this summer Rome Regional Rider Snowboarder Randall Stacy was snowboarding in Argentina when he was buried by an avalanche.  The 16-year old was quickly located thanks to his avalanche beacon and dug out from under three feet of snow after being carried a quarter-mile down the hillside.

Stacy did suffer a fractured patella and fibula but he’s home in Stratton, VY, recuperating.  He’s a student at Stratton Mt School.

Rome has a post with more info and some amazing video of the slide (Check it out).  You get to site through some pretty sick footage before the finale of the avalanche, but when you see it, there’s no doubt this kid was lucky to come out of it alive.

Stay safe out there this winter!
