After seven years as the title sponsor of the ASP World Tour’s Trestles event, mobile phone maker Boost Mobile is giving up the honor and transferring it to Hurley.

The ASP was approached by Boost Mobile last week about the transfer and while no official reason was given by Boost, the current economic downturn no doubt has played a role.

“The Board of ASP International was approached by Boost Mobile last week to request the transfer of their license to Hurley,” ASP CEO Brodie Carr said. “The ASP Board unanimously approved the transfer. Hurley has been supporting the Boost Mobile Pro for a number of years now and the transfer of the license with the associated naming rights was an easy decision for us.”

The ASP has been holding a world tour event in California’s Lower Trestles since 2000.  The first year it was sponsored by Billabong and the second year it was skipped because 9/11 shortened the season.  Boost Mobile started on as the title sponsor in 2002, when it held the event with support from Billabong.  From 2003 to 2005, it was the sole sponsor then Hurley came on as support in 2006 until this year.  It is currently the only world tour event on the mainland U.S. and has been the site of several memorable contests, including earlier this year as Kelly Slater won on his way to a ninth world title.
