Mountain High and ROXY Present Sunset Sessions: Park Clinics for Girls

December 22, 2008 – 11:00 pm PT by Me

If the creators of THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS were to make a third installment of the highly successful, tremendously heartwarming series, featuring some of the most famous young and hip female actors, I say that they do it up at Mountain High Resort during the ROXY Sunset Session.  What better way for a group of young girls to bond than at a resort made for women by women.  That means no boneheaded comments made by guys.  No nasty funk filling the room by testosterone driven meatheads.  I say all girls, all the time.  Now that’s assuming the movies are what I think they are about given I’ve never seen anything but a preview.

But if you would like to have your own “Sisterhood of the traveling pants”, experience (sorry bros), I suggest you take the time to look into the Mountain High Resort & Roxy Sunset Sessions.  Sunset Sessions, a new series of evening park clinics for girls in January and February geared towards girls who are comfortable on green and blue runs.  Sunset Sessions provides an encouraging environment where participants can progress at their own pace with Mountain High’s certified female coaches. The ROXY Team ups the experience by hitting the slopes with the girls and providing Roxy product demos.

Winter Dew Tour Wraps Up in Breckenridge

December 22, 2008 – 12:50 am PT by Wina

The first stop of the Winter Dew Tour wrapped up Sunday in Breckinridge, Co., and six athletes are each $15,000 richer.

It’s a record setting event—the first winter tour for the huge Dew/Alli empire, the first exhibition for women freeskiers, and unlike the one-week, one-stop X Games, there are three stops in the Winter Dew, where repeat winners can total up huge prizes  to rival the heavy money X Games. In addition, women winners in snowboard pipe and slopestyle will get paid the same as the men.

Shaun White got his loot for winning Saturday’s snowboard slopestyle contest, while nearly unknown Canadian rider Spencer O’Brien had the run of her life and ruled women’s snowboard slopestyle, scoring seven points higher than her closest competition.

But gasps of awe and screams of joy went to Breck local Bobby Brown, who won freeski slopestyle with ever bigger tricks as he rode his run, most of them switch, including a switch misty 1080—upside down and twisting—to a switch double rodeo 900 from the top of one jump, and spinning like a gyroscope off the others.

The show continued Saturday night under bright lights, when freeskier Tanner Hall shook off all the rest to land the first 1080 of his career—at the bottom of the superpipe. He went on with back to back nines, and tricked all the way to the bottom.

While there are lots of women who go big on boards, there are not yet enough women freeskiers who throw down well enough to contest for the best at the Winter Dew, so while there are women freeskiing pipe and slopestyle exhibitions, they’re not yet part of the official contests.

Sunday’s finals were bluebird all the way, after a week of qualifying and contests where the snow never stopped. “Today was the first day it didn’t snow, but we still had great competitions the whole time. In the open qualifiers, there were close to 250 athletes,” said Chris Prybylo, the Dew’s Vice President of Events.

The wrap up was total pipe, and Gretchen Bleiler continued her domination, with halfpipe amplitude rarely seen in women riders. Danny Davis won superpipe.

Another Landmark Achievement For Shaun

December 20, 2008 – 2:00 am PT by Me

dewtour1.jpg

I’ve got a good feeling that this won’t be the only record the “Flying Tomato” will break during his long and illustrious career.  Shaun makes winning Gold medals look like it’s going out of style.  And you know Shaun is all about STYLE.  The guy virtually dominates every big competition that he practically enters.  I foresee Shaun being the biggest “action sports” fashion designer.  In order to do so, he’ll probably have to branch out into FANNYPACKS and MENS UNDERWEAR

On top of all his achievements, Shaun just completed another landmark achievement.  Shaun White was the first athlete to win a Summer Dew Tour event in skateboard vert and he continued that success on the Winter Dew Tour by becoming the first person to earn a winter victory.  White scorched the competition on Friday at Breckenridge Ski Resort, earning a 95.17 and capturing the first Winter Dew Tour men’s snowboard slopestyle title.

“I might as well go for it now,” White said.  “It was cool to just put my head down and bust through it.  I’m excited.  I’m doing all the stops so it’s nice to start out right.”

Check out the Press Release Below…

With today’s victory, White now has a chance to become the first summer and winter Dew Cup champion.  White won the skateboard vert Dew Cup in 2007 and with his 25-point lead in snowboard slopestyle, he is the favorite to win a Dew Cup on the Winter series.

New Breeders Website Launch

December 20, 2008 – 1:30 am PT by Mike

newbreeders7.jpg

You’ve been through that predicament.  You’re watching a sick ROLLERBLADING video with all your closest homies at your mom’s house munching on some Rice Crispy treats and Bobby all of a sudden screams in his girliest voice, “Damn dawg!  Did you see that spot ARLO EISENBERG was totally shredding?  We gots ta hit dat spot up dawgs!  Who’s wit me!??”

Unfortunately for you, Arlo, and your dawgs, you had no clue where that spot was.  Why?  One reason is because Rollerbladers probably get beaten up at that spot by wandering jocks in lowered S-10 pickups or simply because you and your friends just don’t know.  All of us have experienced this hype from watching skateboard, snowboard, surf, and HEELY vids, just to later be let down due to little or no info on these certain spots.

Well we now live in 2008, close to 2009 and long are the days when we don’t know squat.  We can literally pull the encyclopedia out of our ass pockets and look up anything in the entire universe, 24/7.  Well ad NEW BREEDERS to your favorites list  (next to HOTORNOT.COM) because now, you can look up any spot in the entire world, any time.  Ever wonder where and how you can get to that spot Arlo was tearing things up?  Look it up on New Breeders.  Ever been on a road trip and you find some obscure city and wondered where to go?  New Breeders will lead you there.

Stereo Sound Agency Videos

December 20, 2008 – 1:19 am PT by Mike

my_name_is_earl.JPG

Stereo has been pushing so much heat lately and there are no signs of them slowing down.  Jason Lee, one of the Stereo originals is the topic of a video series titled “The Earl Files”.  What can this very intriguing video be about?  Well I’ve mentioned this before but only a few skaters have made the transition from skateboarding to acting successfully.  And just because you’re a great skater doesn’t mean you will make a great actor.  Just look at Tony Hawk.  Despite being an innovator on a skateboard, he showed a lackluster performance in GLEAMING THE CUBE.  Maybe teammate Willy Manaloto Santos should have taught him a thing or two after doing The SKATEBOARD KID 2

Growing up I never would have guessed based on just seeing his skate parts, Jason Lee would be such a charismatic actor type.  Well Jason Lee has seemed to do pretty well for himself on the hit show MY NAME IS EARL.  Stereo is posting “The Earl Files” on the STEREO website and it gives us an inside look at Jason’s life on the set.

In this episode Jason takes us for a tour of the set, with special guest Chris Pastras. Stay tuned for monthly Earl Files episodes starting in 2009… STEREO
