Active Ride Shop Events This Weekend

November 18, 2008 – 9:43 pm PT by Mike

If you’re a dope enough skater, then you don’t need me to tell you that the 3rd Annual Active Amateur Invite is going down this weekend.  Don’t let the flyer fool you.  This isn’t a contest for you TRANS AM enthusiast.  Although that would be pretty cool.  It would be the biggest gathering of old school mullets, hipsters, and bros in one setting.  But rather it’s an event for you amateurs good enough to be invited to partake to this mega event.

The contest takes place at Active Headquarters in Mira Loma, California on November 22nd, from 11AM – 5PM.  Over 35 of the world’s best skaters will be competing for a piece of the $12,000 purse and prizes.  Admission is free for those of you who can make it out.  If you can’t make it, well then you can view it online on the live web cast at Activerideshop.com

If you’re bitter and can’t make it out, maybe you should take the drive out to Active in Las Americas (where the heck is that?) for a Paul Rodriguez meet and greet.  Maybe he can influence you to be a better skate so that you can get the invite for next year.  This event takes place on the same day at 2PM.  And all Plan B decks are only $35.  Check out the flyer for more details.

Where The F*&% Is Santa?

November 18, 2008 – 9:41 pm PT by Mike

It’s that time of the year again when we get that fuzzy feeling that just overwhelms us with joy.  That is unless you’re a RAVER and you probably get that fuzzy feeling every weekend.  But with Christmas just around the corner, three major factors are associated with giving me that holiday spirit.  Presents, Santa Claus, and Christmas films.  There is nothing better than getting a present from Santa Claus that turns out to be a Christmas film.

I actually love giving out Christmas films out as gifts.  So if you personally know me, expect to get one of these favorite titles of mine: “Jingle All the Way” starring Governor Schwarzenegger, “Surviving Christmas”, or “All I Want For Christmas”, starring the Olsen Twins.  You’re in for a real treat.

But if you’re a different kind of Christmas film, I suggest you check out Bam Margera’s new holiday film titled, “Where The F*&%” is Santa?”  I’m not sure if this is one you want to show to grandma but I think if you and your friends want something a bit more mature, then perhaps you should ask your mom to get you this one.

Bam and crew were in Finland for the majority of April filming this movie with Warner Brothers called, Where The F*#K Is Santa?. It will be rated “R”, of course, and will feature HIM, The 69 Eyes, Hanoi Rocks and the Dudesons; With an ending party in PA with Geoff Rowley, Mark Appleyard, Kerry Getz, Donny Barley, Nick Dompierre and Ricky Oyola for the pro skaters. Also ‘The Moxy’ performing! (Bams new band with Filthy Note). Movie is straight to DVD for a XMAS 2008 release.

This year’s Annual Rail Jam in Squaw Valley is a memorial to Charles “Coogan” Kelly who was killed at a party last year in Reno, Nevada. The Lake Tahoe and Truckee snowboard communities lost a great snowboarder and an even greater citizen of the community.  Coogan was a successful competitor on the rail jam and snowboarding circuit in and around Tahoe.  In its second year, the Coogan Kelly Memorial Rail Jam is a tribute to Coogan, a passionate snowboarder and friend. In his memory, SnowBomb will donate all competitor registration fees to the Coogan Kelly Foundation.  Read the press release below for more info…

The Coogan Kelly Memorial Rail Jam is open to riders of all ages and talents and consists of both men’s and women’s ski and snowboard divisions. Registration is at 9 am, practice starts at 11 am, and the competition will begin at 1 pm. If time allows a special Best Trick Jam Session will follow the competition.

The Coogan Kelly Memorial Rail Jam is free for spectators, as it is scheduled to take place on Searchlight (lower Exhibition) located near the base of the mountain. Entry fee for all riders is $10 and helmets are mandatory for all competitors. Athletes under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present at registration to sign a liability release form.

The Coogan Kelly Foundation raises money for the Coogan Kelly Scholarship awarded each year to young aspiring snowboarders to help advance their careers. In front of a jury today in a San Diego Courtroom, Seth Cravens was found guilty for the murder of professional surfer Emery Kauanui.  Cravens was charged for the murder of Kauanui outside his mother’s home in La Jolla California.  Seth and his crew called “The Bird Rock Bandits” tracked down Seth at his mother’s house after an altercation took place at a local bar.

As far as I’m concerned, they should lock up all these stupid ass Bird Rock Bandits for life.  Let these Bird Crap scum rot in there.  Read the entire article below from signonsandiego.com

SAN DIEGO – A San Diego Superior Court jury found Seth Cravens guilty of second-degree murder Tuesday in the fatal beating last year of a professional surfer in La Jolla.

Sentencing was set for Jan. 12. Cravens’ defense lawyer said they would appeal the verdict.

14th Annual Roxy Pro Hawaii Live Webcast

November 18, 2008 – 8:57 pm PT by Me

The 14th Annual Roxy Pro Hawaii at Sunset Beach, which is the 7th stop of the ASP Women’s World Tour is set to go down this coming Monday the 24th of November and is scheduled on through December 6th.  The event takes place at the infamous North Shore on the island of Oahu.  This event is the second jewel in the Van’s Triple Crown of Surfing.  The contest, which will be broadcast live on the web from www.roxy.com, will take place over two days within the 12-day holding period.

The Roxy Pro Hawaii is the longest running women’s professional shortboard competition in Hawaii and will once again play a crucial part in deciding the 2008 Women’s World Tour Champion.  Coming into the event, reigning ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) holds a small lead in the ratings over Roxy team-rider Sofia Mulanovich (Peru), the defending Roxy Pro Hawaii and 2005 Women’s World Tour Champion.  With the ratings so close and the lead changing hands multiple times throughout this year’s tour, the Roxy Pro Hawaii will play a critical role in determining the 2008 ASP Women’s World Tour Champion.

“We are thrilled to be continuing the tradition of women’s big-wave surfing in Hawaii with the Roxy Pro Hawaii,” said Randy Hild, EVP of Global Marketing, Roxy.  “Sunset Beach is a defining wave and proving ground for any surfer, male or female, and Roxy is proud to offer women the chance to leave their mark on this famed break.”

Ryan Sheckler’s Broriffic Skate Compound

November 17, 2008 – 12:44 pm PT by Mike

splashmiddle.JPG

I was taking my morning stroll through the Internet this morning and coming across the usual obscure novelty websites such as Potion-And-Spells.com where you can learn how to cast a spell on your teachers or another interesting site I came across called ALL STAR JHERI CURLS which features some of Major Leagues Baseball’s most athletic and talented Jheri Curls.  Then I accidentally came across Ryan Sheckler’s social networking site called RyanSheckler.com

For one I didn’t even know that he had a social networking site.  How awesome is that?  Sheckler fans across the universe have a place where we can come together and chat everything Sheckler.  And second, I didn’t know he had his own skate compound.  But this isn’t any ordinary skate park like Dyrdek’s FANTASY FACTORY.  This is like a skatepark on roids.  Steroids that is.  I think Sheckler really wanted to emphasize his “Go Hard or Go Home” philosophy on life.

Anyway, the Ryan Sheckler website looked like it was full of all sorts of awesome things so I decided to sign up and possibly make a few new friends.  Unfortunately when I logged on, the members section was dominated by underage girls and dudes who look take photos of themselves like THIS

Local Surfer Takes The PXM International Vans Pro Title

November 17, 2008 – 12:37 pm PT by Me

lozano_asp.JPG

The PXM International Vans Pro complete competition yesterday in Puerto Escondido, Mexico yesterday and it was a local, 21 year old Angelo Lozano who took the ASP World Qualifying Series 3-Star title.  The day saw a consistent 6-8 foot surf with plenty of tough competition from all over the world including Gabriel Villaran of Lima, Peru, Ryan Turner of Huntington Beach, CA, and fellow Puerto Escondido native David Rutherford.

Lozano had an impressive showing the entire event at the Vans Pro event, but eventually stepped it up a few notches for the finals beating out former Puerto Escondido event champion Rutherford, and Turner, who posted a perfect 10 and netted the event’s highest heat total yesterday.

“I’m very proud and I’m proud of all the local surfers,” Lozano said. “We have a lot of good tube-riders here and if we can get some more events I think we can see a lot more Mexican surfers on the WQS.”

PXM International Vans Pro Final Results:
1 - Angelo Lozano (MEX)
2 - Gabriel Villaran (PER)
3 - Ryan Turner (USA)
4 - David Rutherford (MEX)

Emerica Design-A-Tee Contest

November 17, 2008 – 12:31 pm PT by Mike

design-a-tee-91.jpg

Just open up your school notebook and choose one of the DOODLES you spent 30 minutes on during your Home Ec. classes.  Emerica is holding its 9th Annual DESIGN-A-TEE contest for you youngins who feel you have the skills but no connection to make them BILLS.  But you must somehow incorporate an Emerica designed theme to your doodle so that it can qualify.  Entries must be entered as soon as possible because the contest officially closes on December 3rd.  Get the Design-A-Tee template HERE

After the contest ends, three winners will be chosen, each of whom will receive five shirts bearing their winning design, and three pairs of Emerica shoes. Note: Upon entering the contest, your artwork becomes the property of Emerica (Sole Technology, Inc.) The three winners’ designs will be produced in a future Emerica Gear (apparel) line, and their only payment is the prizes listed.

Here’s what Emerica wants you to avoid:  Do not submit any entries containing the words “God Bless Emerica” or depict an American flag with Emerica Triangle logos in place of the stars. Another cliché to avoid is the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon graphic with a Triangle logo prism.

I don’t know about them but I actually love those clichés.  I suggest more of them to tell you the truth.
- Pride of Emerica
- Emerica: Love it or leave it.
- Emerica’s Youth.

Do something around these and I’m sure Emerica will love these ideas.
