The DVS Council on Skateboarding Welfare announced today a bailout plan that aims to boost the morale of skateboarders nationwide. Recent studies indicate that skateboarders too are vulnerable during economic downturns – often citing razor tails, pressure cracks, and coned wheels as signs of the times. In addition, many skaters are now experiencing an overall lack of funds for post session sodas, chips, and candy – a snacking deficit DVS Skateboard Welfare Chairman Tim Gavin says must end immediately.

DVS’ proposed bailout plan aims to offset these economic hardships by delivering a healthy package of tour footage from DVS’ summer skate trips “A skateboard Bailout Plan of this magnitude is exactly what is needed during these difficult times,” says Gavin.

The Bailout Package includes footage from DVS tours including the Scandinavian Scandilous tour, the Eh To Z tour through Canada, and the Freaks and Greeks tour to Greece.

The DVS Bailout Package is being headed up by a long list of highly experienced committee members including: , Lucien Clarke, Jeron Wilson, Russ Milligan, Kerry Getz, Bryan Wherry, and Chico Brenes.

Come out and meet Daewon Song, Jeron Wilson, Jimmy Cao, Chico Brenes, and Torey Pudwill and ask them how you can grow up to be as good of skaters as them.  Or you can ask Jimmy or Torey how it feels to be grown men in a boys body.  Check out the flyer. 

Psyche, The Criterion Collection did not put out a DVD series featuring the four films presented in the “Skate & Create” series.  But I’m sure for many of you film wannabes (like myself) and you tech dorks (also like myself) and finally you poser skaters (most definitely like myself), you may have had a zillion questions running and zipping through your mind as you watched in amazement the spectacle that Osiris, Globe, Emerica, and DVS. 

Just in case if you’re uninformed about these things, “Skate & Create” was a one of a kind and extremely unique skateboard contest putting 4 shoe companies up against each other with 5 skaters per team locked up in a warehouse for 9 days, and one videographer.  You could imagine what went down.  They produced a wide array of shorts consisting of everything from stoner clips to circus fun, plus plenty of slow mo. 

Well when it was all said and done with plenty of debate, DVS came out on top with the winning video.  And I must say, I was quite impressed.  Not as good as my Rollerblade film, but still pretty good.

On October 11th at 1:00 PM, Marc Frank Montoya, Mikey LeBlanc, Jussi Okansen, and Jamie Anderson will be at Identity Boardshop in Buena Park.

Then on October 12th at 3:00 PM, Mikey Leblanc, Jussi Okansen, and Jamie Anderson will be at Sun Diego in Escondido CA. Here’s your chance for you guys down south to meet some of your snowboarding heroes.

Here’s how it works. All DVS skate shops will receive a golden ticket to participate, but only the first 100 shops to RSVP will be eligible to compete. These 100 lucky shops will have the opportunity to produce a five-minute video segment highlighting the best skateboarding their shop team has to offer. Each team will have exactly five months to film, produce, and edit their footage. On January 31, 2009 each team will submit their footage to DVS. Once received each shop video will be meticulously judged by DVS team riders on the quality of skateboarding, cinematography, editing, soundtrack, and art direction.

The shop that produces the best overall video will receive custom DVS shoes, a DVS demo, and a DVS ad running in major skateboard magazine announcing them as the winner of the Shoplift’n contest. The lucky shop will also have their video featured on www.dvsskate.com and will have the opportunity to defend their title next year.

This results of this contest is going to be sick. 

Well the guys over at Transworld put together one of the most clever and fun competitions in the first ever Skate And Create compeition.  The object of the competition is to put four different shoe teams up against one another.  Each team will consist of five team riders, one art director, and one cinematographer.  They are locked up in a warehouse, almost like the cast of Big Brother is locked up in a house.  Except the skate teams are doing something interesting.

Well after it was all said and done and after four extremely amazingly produced videos, it was the DVS team who came out on top.  Their dramatic lighting mixed with spectacular skating gave the film a one of a kind look.  Go over to the Transworld site to read a nice interview with DVS team rider Daewon Song.

I haven’t seen the movie yet but Torey Pudwill kind of looks like James Franco from “The Pineapple Express”.  Kind of.  Well both of them are stoners (I think) and both are very talented at what they do.  Franco at potraying a weed dealer and Torey at skating.  But instead of running away from goons, Pudwill is shredding pretty hard.

DVS has dedicated a special area to new pro skater Torey Pudwill with several interesting links to his life.  You can check out some baby pictures, a very young Skating Torey, and a dope segment featuring “A Week With Torey”.  Man this guys rips.  Must be fun to be that good.

I hate it when people talk smack about our fellow neighbors up north, the Canadians. They are treated like the Rolloerbladers of the Americas. Since when did they deserved such disdain from us. Is it because they have universal health care and we don’t? Or is it because Canada is home to one of the most influential white rappers, or just rappers in general, Snow with his 1993 smash hit “Informer”. One must acknowledge, without Snow, there may be no Eminem or Bubba Sparxxx. No respect at all. Just remember as the great Snow once said,

Anyway I’m happy to see that the DVS team is paying their respects with their “Eh To Z” tour. Although I think that saying “Eh” to describe Canadians might be a little funny, at least DVS is doing their share to make them feel apart of the cool kids. And DVS has graced us with some really good tour footage coming all the way out of Montreal, Quebec, and Ottawa. Check it! And after you’re done watching those vids, lets pay our respects to Canada below.

I wish I was rewarded the first time I ever shop lifted.  I was 6 and stole some gummy worms from the self-serve candy area at Vons.  The employee who caught me was a big man with a mustache who worked in butcher department and told me to never come back again.  I nearly soiled myself.  Anyways DVS is searching for the best in front and behind the camera crews from over 100 skate shops.  Do you think you have what it takes to make a pretty special skate video?  And I’m sure DVS will recognize the biters.  Those overly using the slow mo because they see Ty Evans use it to perfection.  Or possibly root out those who shoot it Nike SB Style adding short films to tell a story.  If I were you, I would shoot it with your dad’s old JVC VHS camera that weighs 20 lbs.  That would look unlike anybody else’s video.
