Bucky Lasek had a session with some friends in his hometown of Baltimore Maryland just hours before the AST Dew Tour vert finals.  Keep your eye at around the 1:46 mark.  There’s a great shot of a kid doing some twist and turns on the asphalt.  I think he might have been in a break dancing competition. 

Then I found this kid from Kettering Ohio skating the plaza.  I think his name is Nick M but I’m not really sure.  His skating is pretty out of control and very consistent winning him plenty of cash.  But it doesn’t compare to the awesomeness of the dude with the bullhorn.  Look for him at around the 2:00 mark.  He’s like Conan The Barbarian’s zombie twin. 

And finally there’s the clip that takes place on the 405 freeway in Los Angeles.  If you didn’t already know, the Interstate 405 is one of the busiest freeways in the country and the connecting freeway from I 10 can take upwards to about 45 minutes just to transfer during rush hour.  It really sucks.  Well the guy in the clip below some how manages to skate and stop traffic on I 405.  If I were stuck behind this guy, I don’t know if I’d be pissed off, or if I would root him on.  Or maybe ask him if he’s lost. 

Included in that price, the day will include all the fun and games, all the Tang you can handle, and a digital photo of you with my pet iguana.  It will be a blast.  So far nobody has signed up to come over and it’s already Friday.  So you better let me know asap because I’m sure it’s going to fill up soon.  And I’m allowed only 50 people.

Go Skateboarding Day is just around the corner and the guys at The Skateboard Mag and Jessup Griptape have teamed up to make sure you have enough grip tape for your board on June 21st. 

Grip your board for free! Go into your local participating Skateboard shop and ask for a sheet of Jessup Griptape while supplies last. Limit one per customer.  You can see a list of skate shops partaking here. 

Unfortunately for me I won’t be able to go skating on Go Skateboarding Day because my mentor Mr. Miyagi will have me sanding his floor that day.  Fortunately for me though, I will just go get myself some free grip tape and use that to sand his floor and pocket the money he gave to me to buy myself a ticket to Raging Waters. 
 

Ever since I saw Officer Rivieri on Youtube teaching that young punk a lesson, it was inspiring to me and helped me change my life and my views.  Officer Rivieri has to be one of my all time favorite super heroes.

The International Association of Skateboard Companies just put out this press release…

The International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) announced the 5th Annual International Go Skateboarding Day (GSD) will be held this year on the first day of summer, Saturday, June 21, 2008.

Go Skateboarding Day, founded by IASC, is recognized internationally by skaters, skate companies and the industry as a whole as an official holiday and continues to grow each year. “This day allows anyone to celebrate the exhilarating spirit of one of the most influential activites in the world, skateboarding.” said John Bernards, executive director of IASC and GSD spokesperson.

On GSD, skateboarders can look forward to a handful of new initiatives this year including: a series of collectable posters–the first has been created by pro skater Ed Templeton; a retail window decorating contest; and countless new events that leaders in the skate industry and various skate companies and shops will execute around the world.

In Glendale, AZ, an off-duty cop is being prosecuted for choking a neighbor who was skateboarding past his house.  On the street!  Pulled by his dog, even!  So it’s not enough that skaters get attacked by on-duty cops (*cough* Hot Springs, AR).

Then there’s the pleasant little burb of Fredericton, population 50,000 and change, in New Brunswick, Canada.  Apparently there it’s illegal to skate on city streets and one skateboarder is willing to go to jail to make his point, even though all he had to do was pay a $50 fine.  (good for him)

So as your town puts together an event for GSD this year (mark it:  June 21)  be thankful you’re not in one of those towns.  Or Hot Springs.  Or Tampa.  Or in any one of the thousands of towns and cities that looks down on skateboarders.  Oops…

The day begins at 12pm and ends at 4pm and will include a $1,500 pro/am contest with plenty of giveaways and autographs. It should be a fun event without the hassle of cops, so make sure you join the fun, and the dread locks.
