Just so you are updated with team acquisitions, Jose Rojo from ENJOI is the latest addition to the etnies skate team.  There is a lot to be said about one of the O.G. members of Enjoi.  But there’s even more to be said about him after you read his sit down INTERVIEW.  Be prepared to be surprisingly empathetic and disgusted at the same time.  Depends how you look at it.

Sometimes, there are occasions that should stay between those involved.  Other times, you should be so proud about certain moments that you should tell the whole world.  So again, it depends how you look at it. 

If you haven’t this footage from Emerica’s Australia tour, then take six minutes to do so because a lot of this stuff is pretty sick and is done stylistically well.  It’s nice to see skate teams veering away from a lot of the new digital technology flooding the video market and staying true to grimier mediums like super 8 film.  Plus the music matches the video pretty well.  Oh yeah and watch out for Leo Romero’s 5-0 grind at the end of this clip.  Dang! 

But anyway, if this Emerica Australian footage is a precursor for what’s to come in the new Emerica video, then it should be pretty rad. 

Last year it was Enjoi, Jerry Hsu and Bag of Suck — this year, look for Lakai’s Fully Flared and Guy Mariano to have a huge impact at the 10th Annual Transworld SKATEboarding Awards.  The video received two nominations and Lakai’s Guy Mariano received two nods, including Best Street and Reader’s Choice (where he will have a tough battle against his fell Lakai-er Mike Mo Capaldi).

Other notable nods for this year’s award included Nick Dompierre in the Best Rookie category, perennial fave Girl in Best Team (against Plan B and Habitat) and Tony Hawk receiving the TWS Legend Award.  Gone is the Best Vert category, replaced by Best Tranny (Dan Drehobl, Jake Duncombe, Emmanuel Guzman get nods), and another new category is Best Two Video Parts to honor those who are lucky enough to get a couple of releases.

The awards will take place on Friday, June 13 in Hollywood and will be webcast.  Lat34 will be there with bells on (just check out our coverage last year — plus photos).

TRANSWORLD SKATEBOARDING ANNOUNCES NOMINEES FOR THE 10th ANNUAL TWS AWARDS

Winners To Be Announced on June 13, 2008 in Hollywood, CA

Oceanside, CA – May 16, 2008 – Transworld SKATEboarding, the world’s number one skateboard magazine, announced the nominees for the 10th Annual Transworld SKATEboarding Awards today. The winners will be named during a live event on June 13, 2008 at Avalon Hollywood.

The Transworld SKATEboarding Awards honor skateboarding’s top riders, presenting eight awards to professional skateboarders in the categories of: Best Rookie, Best Street Skater, Best Transition Skater, Best Team, Best Video, Best Video Part, Best Two Video Parts, TWS Readers’ Choice and the TWS Legend Award. The award winners are determined by polling more than 150 professional skateboarders worldwide with thousands of Transworld SKATEboarding’s readers voting for the winner of the TWS Readers’ Choice Award. This year’s TWS Legend Award will be presented to one of skateboarding’s biggest stars, Tony Hawk. Previous winners of this prestigious award have included Mark Gonzales, Lance Mountain, and Steve Caballero.

To commemorate the 10th Anniversary, this year’s TWS Awards will also include a ten-year photo slideshow featuring the most acclaimed photography, art direction, and storytelling in skateboarding. Plus, the post awards party will kick-off with the world premiere of And Now, the newest film by Transworld SKATEboarding’s Jon Holland and Chris Ray, featuring Sean Malto, David Gravette, Matt Miller, Richie Jackson, Kenny Hoyle, and Nick Trapasso.

“The TWS Awards have always been the biggest and best awards in skateboarding, and that’s because it’s the pros who decide who truly rose above for the year,” says Eric Stricker, editor of Transworld SKATEboarding. “There isn’t a more meaningful award than garnering that kind of respect from your peers. And with the level of skateboarding turned up thanks to the astronomical number of video releases in ’07, whoever wins deserves to party that much harder.”
