The beginning of the day saw forty-eight surfers who attempted to move onto the next round but only sixteen of those forty-eight managed to move on through to the fifth round of the ASP World Qualifying Series Buondi Billabong Pro in Ericeira Portugal and that includes only four surfers who rank among the top 45 of the ASP. Travis Logie of South Africa was the surfer of the day by scoring an impressive 9.57 out of a possible 10 to earn him the highest score by the end of the day. Logie had to cut through a tough competition, which included American Che Stang, Mason Ho of Hawaii, and Kadson Andre of Brazil.

“It was a pretty tricky day with the swell dropping fast and the tides affecting a lot the conditions,” Logie said. “I am stoked with my boards, the one I used in that heat is just working perfectly and gives me great confidence in any waves. It is really good to get that heat out of the way, and I hope I will make it again.”

Logie, who has been among the ASP elite since 2005, has had several excellent results in his career including a win in the ASP WQS 6-Star event in Hossegor four years ago and came to Europe to try and secure a back-up in case he does not requalify with his Dream Tour ranking at the end of the year.

“I like the waves here but I am not really worrying about the location, I will surf anywhere without pressure,” Logie said. “I am pretty relaxed because my main focus is on the ASP World Tour but I will take any big result here as a back up for sure. Just in case it gets harder on the World Tour.”
