Ocean & Earth presents O.N.E. Celebration.  It’s a music and art benefit for the O.C. Rescue Mission with featured artist such as Matt Maust, Ryan Bryant, and Joe Aaron with musical guest Ray Barbee & The Mattson 2.  It takes place on December 18th at Evocal at 8PM.  Admission is just one can of food.  I’m sure you can find something. 

Did you know that for every ton of office paper, book reports, or love letters you recycle could save approximately 380 gallons of oil?  Or are you aware that about 50-100 species of plants and animals become extinct due to the destruction of their natural habitat?  Wrap your mind around this one – your urine has multiple beneficial uses.  Like peeing on your t-shirt then wrapping it around your head when you can’t escape the heat is a good way to keeping you cool.  Not just slang cool, but your temperature cool as well.   That one doesn’t really apply to saving the planet but I thought you should just know that fact.  

I’ve done my part.  Now it’s your turn to spread the wealth of knowledge.  The Element Team have definitely given their share of environmental awareness.  Their brand new “Power To The Planet” campaign gathered over 60 Element family members to share with you the viewer, why it’s important to save our planet and how essential it is to start now.  And you essentially don’t have to do that much.  Change your light bulbs to power saving bulbs.  Ride your board once a week instead of using your LIFTED CHEVY.  Maybe hang out with NUDIST.

MMmmm

Desiree Astorga, the curator of this exciting exhibit is responsible for bringing a number of artists and photographers in the skate industry together in the past.  Mixed Messages takes place in Ojai California at The Village Jester on Saturday June 28th at 6pm.  .  Proceeds from the art exhibit will go towards the Ojai Skatepark fundraiser.  If $50,00 is donated towards the foundation, then an anonymous donor will match that.  Can you imagine?  A $100,000 community skatepark?  Now that’s a great cause.

Featured artist at the show will include Chris Pastras, Ave England, Grant Brittain, Kris Markovich, and many many more.  And on top of it all, Ray Barbee will be performing.  This will be your chance to mix in with the artsy fartsy skate scene. 

Just last week I was talking crap about how skate teams never travel the east coast. How the west gets all the love. It probably has a lot to due with the weather and horrible terrain but another region that doesn’t get much love either is the south, also known as the “Dirty South”. And who wouldn’t love the Dirty South? Land of crunk, crunkville, Lil John, Hotlanta, Cash Money, bling, Da Nolia’s, and my favorite rapper from that region, Juvenile.

At least the Vans skate team appreciates all that and made an appearance at Humidity Skateshop in New Orleans (Go Hornets!) last weekend and will be rolling through several other southern cities. On the tour Van Wastell, Ray Barbee, Johnny Layton, and Massimo Cavedoni will be there for the entire trip but other team members will join up along the way. I didn’t even know there was an Active Santa Monica, but it looks like the WESC team will be making an appearance there this coming May 17th from 2pm to 4pm. All the WE skate Activist will be there. Chris Pastras, Ray Barbee, Daryl Angel, Clint Peterson, Cooper Wilt, Benny Fairfax, Tony Manfre, Jason Lee, and the newest addition, Steve Berra. Many people you should be looking up to in skateboarding will be there, especially Jason Lee and Steve Berra for their involvement with the Church of Scientology. Something you too should really look into.
