It’s been a long year but 2008 is nearly out the door and 2009 will present us with a brand new refreshing start. With a complete revamp of Bush’s totally awesome, totally successful presidency, we will be welcoming a new look to this country’s government with Barack Obama and his administration. Will he be as popular and efficient in running this country as Bush was? All we can do is wait and see. But there are a few things coming next year whose success is all but certain.

First we have the fourth installment of the ever so popular Fast and Furious franchise. I personally thought that RICE ROCKETS died at least 3 years ago but leave it up to Vin Diesel and his close friend and lost in the rummage co-star Paul Walker to revive the hobby. In the music category, we can go down a long list of things to come. But my personal favorite and it’s been a long time coming: the BONE THUGS N HARMONY album. When they’re first album came out over a decade ago, it single handedly created a monster within suburban communities nation wide. Middle-class straight A students morphed into gangstas. It was awesome.

Finally for television, I don’t get a chance to watch much of the tube unless it’s a holiday marathon of my favorite series SMALL WONDER. But those are far and few between. Fortunately Rob Dyrdek’s up coming show, which takes place at his newly constructed “Fantasy Factory”, will be hitting the air next year. If you haven’t seen the skate plaza yet, it’s like THE BERRICS on crack. Sorry, that’s a bad analogy. More like The Berrics on Prozac mixed with LSD. It’s pretty fresh. Check out the new video over at DC.

You skateboarders are a clever and creative bunch. But, I know that this is a complete generalization but I’m sure most of you who skate know someone who embodies the steteotypical skater. I would say that Donovan from Buttery Ass Monday’s is the epitome of millions of biters out there. The dude is original as hell though. He’s sort of like urban version of MacGyver. As a result, kids all over the country begin to look like that kid, Andy Milonakis.

But over the past couple of years, a few skaters have stuck out enough to make it onto the most creative television network out there, MTV. The Jackass crew rose the bar pretty high as far as content goes. Their show ideas were simple, cheap to produce, and miraculously allowed straight guys to act gay. Perfect. Then kind of simultaneously, Rob Dyrdek and Ryan Sheckler came out with their own reality shows. Rob’s show was about how much time and money he can waste while Ryan’s show was about how many tears he could shed.

I’m not exactly sure how the ratings went for both these shows but I’m assuming that Sheckler won that round due to thousands of fan sites like THIS. But Rob won’t go down without a fight. His MTV show has evolved a whole lot. No more Big Black, a new dog, and a fantasy skate park have been included. I’m thinking this show is like his old one but on steroids. Check out the sneak peak below from DC.

It was a sad, sad day when the Maloof Money Cup came to and end. Probably one of the most unique skate park designs in the world, the park was used for a total of three days with plenty of outstanding skateboarding taking place. As soon as P-Rod lifted that giant check above his head the skeleton of the park was already exposed. Everyone’s heart was torn.

Well I there’s a hero who surfaced from all of this. I think during his time with the Maloof Money Cup, Rob Dyrdek must have be taking some serious interior design and architectural classes because with the looks of his new skate park named The Fantasy Factory, he pushes skate park design to the limits. And with this sneak preview, you can definitely see how much influence Rob had in the design of the Maloof Money Cup skate park.

With all of this skate madness, MTV along with Rob will be producing a reality TV show revolving around the Fantasy Factory. I think the photos speak for themselves. I don’t watch much TV unless they’re reruns of Saved By The Bell or CNN. And I most definitely never watch MV. But I will be watching this.

It must be sad living in NYC. Never anything to do. Like i’ve said before, the only thing worth doing in the city is to check out Carson Daly on his hit MTV show Total Request Live. I always vote for my favorite star Jojo. Well NYC is living it up with as many events as possible this month. They better enjoy it while it lasts because we all know how crappy those winters are. Given the fact that there were two gnarly events last weekend with the Manny Mania competition and the Back To The Banks in Brooklyn event, plus a Zoo York team with a highly anticipated video, NYC is seeing much action.

Well the DC Team has decided to join the festive spirit in NYC this summer by holding an autograph session and skate demo in the Big Apple. Not sure if they have Active out there so CCS decided to pick up the slack by hosting the event. The day will see the likes of Rob Dyrdek and most likely the big black guy they call uh… Big Black. Also for the ride will be Ryan Smith, PJ Ladd, Lindsey Robertson, Greg Myers, Wes Kremer and many more!!! =C 2Maybe the Cowboy from Times Square will show up as well!!!

The event takes place at Coleman Oval Park near the Manhattan Bridge on August 23rd from 1PM to 4PM. Plus there will be loads of free product giveaways. This is something you can’t miss. Unfortunately i’ll have to miss it because I finally got tickets for that musical Rent. My friend Ricci and I are going to spit spit wads on the singers.

There’s not much to do in the Big Apples. But if you were forced to have to do something, you can maybe go to the MTV studios to check out TRL and vote for your favorite Backstreet Boys video. Or if you can’t get in, you can go hang out with the Cowboy with the guitar and sing some tunes. That’s why its nice to see DC roll into town for something a little bit different.

Rob Dyrdek, PJ Ladd, Ryan Smith will be representing their shoe brand, DC Shoes, in New York City for a skate demo and an autograph signing. The demo and team signing will take place at the Manhattan Skate park on Saturday August 23rd. The demo is sponsored by CCS so check out the flyer for more info.

Now, according to this Skateboarding Magazine interview, Dyrdek’s working on a $100,000 set-up in Lafayette Park in Los Angeles.

Given his obvious distaste of the current state of skate parks, you can expect something that gets to the roots of skateboarding.

If you can handle the poorly-written article, check it out.

You could only imagine what three of skateboarding’s gnarliest pros, along with Vegas’s family of moguls would create in concocting a skate park for the upcoming Maloof Money Cup in July. First of all I would have imagined flames coming out of fountains with a launch ramp on each side. A perfectly placed rail slide that runs along a pirate ship with girls in pirate bikinis throwing money at them. Three Cirque Du Soleil acrobats swinging from side to side as the skaters dodge their bodies. And white Tigers chasing them around the course while skating their run.

Unfortunately none of my ideas made it into the final draft of the skate park they did a great job anyway. Andrew Reynolds, Erik Ellington, and Rob Dyrdek came together with the California Skateparks design team to make a course worthy of Vegas standards. It kind of looks like a bunch of Romans built it and it’s a shame that they will have to tear it down after the competition is complete.

I can’t say that I’ve seen many episodes of MTV Cribs but I do know that some skaters have appeared on the show. I think I’ve seen Koston’s and I also know that Rob Dyrdek has a sick pad. Unfortunately, showcasing those skaters gives the general public a skewed idea of an average skater’s lifestyle. Not to say it’s impossible to achieve what they have, but it definitely isn’t the norm.

That’s why I’m happy to see Vital Skate’s Day in the Trife with Billy Roper. This dude lives like most skaters I knew growing up but I think skaters had much lower standards back then. He isn’t quite pro yet so he doesn’t have the nice car, nice furniture, or even a packed fridge. Actually he doesn’t have any of that. He really has nothing except good friends and a skateboard.
