Tokyo, Japan saw a great day of snowboarding as thousands of fans packed the ever so innovative Tokyo Dome for the highly anticipated Big Air competition at the 6 Star Swatch TTR Nissan X-Trail Jam. You never would have guessed it was hot and humid outside if not for the short sleeve tee’s. But who knows, boarders always find a way to wear their UNDERWEAR out on the slopes.

In an outstanding final, Torstein Horgmo of Norway consistently pull out the best tricks of the night to win the second of two formats, but it was the Flying Tomato himself, Shaun White of Gnarlia USA, with the highest combined score from both the Big Air and the Quarterpipe who claimed the first 6Star TTR Title and 1000 ranking points of the 08/09 Season. Each boarder was awarded with a cute hat for this winter’s snow season.

Is it going to be a dominant performing year by our favorite snowboarding fashinista? Possibly.

“I am stoked. I did not think I would do the event today because my legs were hurting from yesterday. But I tried my best and I am very glad I came.” White now sits at Swatch TTR World No. 26 after just one competition of the 08/09 season, having posted two high-value results.

But the Flying Tomato still has his work cut out for him if he wants to catch up to Torstein Hormo who is in 3rd place and Chas Guldemond who sits atop of the leader board.

The 5th season of Fuel TV’s “The Standard Snowboard Show” couldn’t come soon enough. To get my snowboard fix this summer I either had to play video games, watched my favorite snowboard film SNOWBOARD ACADEMY about three dozen times, or I had to find a steep mountain and do THIS.

Standard Films celebrates the fifth season of “The Standard Snowboard Show” on FUEL TV. This season will feature some of the most talented boarders including Torstein Horgmo, Lonnie Kauk, Kazuhiro Kokubo, Mathieu Crepel and Chas Guldmond. I bet they still can’t do THIS as well as me. Torstein and Chas are known as the best freestyle spinners in snowboarding today, while Lonnie, Kazu and Mathieu cover all aspects of riding the mountain with tons of style.

Also, get a fresh look at the urban rail scene with the introduction of the new “Street Sweeper” segments that assault the inner city terrain in every episode this season.

With countless skaters, boarders, surfers, bladers, and heelys, using the Internet to their advantage by giving their fans the lowdown on what they are doing this very second, it’s just fitting that Fuel TV launches into a new series, currently only for snowboarders, called “Snowboard Diaries”. And what more extreme name can you give than having “Diaries” in the title.

If you think that snowboarding is all parties, bikinis, bad tattoos, and red faces, well then you’re like me because that’s what I thought too. But the snowboarding profession is a lot more than just that. It includes the basic human value of “the struggle” with the sport, thus making a connection with snowboarders and non-snowboarders alike.

The new series is land on your television on Tuesday nights, beginning on December 30th, 2008 at 8:00 PM. The five- part series will star some of the most renowned boarders across the land including Kevin Pearce, X Games Gold Medalist Torstein Horgmo, Eero Ettala, Pat Moore, Jake Blauvelt, Hampus Mosesson, Mikel Bang, Mads Johnson, and many others.

“‘Snowboard Diaries’ promises to be a unique observation into the lives of some of snowboarding’s most compelling characters,” says Sandy Stevenson, Producer, Friday Productions. “Expect some surprises in these shows!”

Sounds pretty deep. Like the stuff you would write in a diary. Be sure to tune in.

The final of the event was crazy. You’ve got an gold medallist from the Olympics, the winner from the New Zealand Open slopestyle, two TTR World Champions, six gold medallists from the Winter X-Games, and more of Australia’s best. That’s like watching a Royal Rumble from WWF wrestling. You couldn’t make up a better field.

Now since you couldn’t be there because airline tickets cost too damn much, then go ahead and watch the highlights in the video below.

RESULTS

“I Ride Park City” snowboard film world premiere at the PCMR Town Lift Plaza. The film features top riders including Park City All Stars Shaun White, Torstein Horgmo, Aaron Biittner, Torah Bright, Scotty Arnold, Stevie Bell, Bode Merrill, Erin Comstock and Drew Fuller. Featured friends include Eero Ettala, Heikki Sorsa, Dan Brisse, Mason Aguirre, Pat Moore, Ryo Aono, Hampus Mossesson, and Jacob Wilhelmson. This outdoor film screening is free to the public.

From what I can tell from the trailer, it looks to be quite spectacular with great cinematography and starring some of the best snowboarders in the world, you can’t go wrong. These guys are jumping over mine buildings, backcountry jumps, park features, powder, and ride some of the biggest jumps ever, all in one location, Park City.

Considering all I know of the city is that there are plenty of Mormons, or maybe it doesn’t, this should give me a perspective of the city that I probably have never seen before. Watch shots from the park and pipe with the worlds longest cable cam shots.

That’s just sick. Check out the trailer
