After months and months of waiting, followed by days and more days of anticipating, the one film that everybody has been waiting for has finally been released. TWILIGHT starring no name actors, Robert Pattinson and Bella Swan had to be one of the most wicked films ever to be adapted from a book. But to be honest, I didn’t really care to see it because the only Vampires that matter to me ever on film are THE LOST BOYS. They eat maggots and worms.

But besides these low budget blockbusters accumulating overwhelming success are the films that really matter. The FINAL FLARE after months of anticipation and expected delays was shipped out yesterday. Meaning the copies should be at your local skate shop now. Or tomorrow at the latest depending where you are. I’ve yet to get my copy because I’m waiting to see it on Youtube.

If you’re unaware of what’s in this deluxe edition of “Fully Flared”, then let me tell you. You’ve got a behind the scenes look at the making of the epic skate movie. They uniquely added skater commentary to go along with skate parts. One on one interviews with the Ty Evans, Spike Jonze, and the skaters. An in depth look at the creation of one the gnarliest openings to a skate movie ever. And, you can watch it on Blu-Ray.

Honestly I really can’t wait to see it. So I will be going home now to watch it.

I think that Epicly Later’d just became the best thing on the Internet right now. After what seemed to be an impossible task to top the epic Gino series, I think they’ve done it with this Lakai series. And the best part is that there are still a few more episodes to go.

When you watch other sports, you don’t get to see what goes on behind the scenes that lead to the greatness in athletes. Those guys work hard man. Do you think that Ronaldinho can do THIS without practice? Or do you just assume that Tyler Rothchild can do THIS without practice? Hell no.

This episode of Epicly Later’d should really humble you. To see what Koston goes through in order to have a full video part is pretty good to see. It shows that he’s just as human as the rest of us. For him, his deamon is a fakie 360 tre lip slide, for the rest of us, it’s maybe a inward heel, or possibly a C WALK. Check this out. I’m so psyched on this.

There was a time when using VHS video cameras to shoot skateboard films was the norm. I remember vividly how awesome a time it was lugging a huge camera around and switching VHS tapes every time one ran out. Sometimes the quality was so awesome a green haze would smear the left corner of the video due to crappy lenses. Those were the days.

Then the Hi8 Video cameras came out and things became a lot more mobile. The production environment diminished considering the size of these cameras and making skateboarding movies felt a lot less like a production.

Now I think we’re going back to the days of the bulky cameras and even more accessories such as steady cams and lighting equipment. Check out these productions over at Skate Fairy and admire what we may expect from skate films. Probably not from the hessian companies since they like the dirty grimy look, but more from the polished companies like Girl and Plan B. I’m not sure if this is a practical way to make skateboarding films but it sure would be a treat and skateboarding can finally rival the quality of those Rollerblade films.

Check out Ty Evan’s newly directed Bud Light Lime campaign starring Eric Koston as “Limey” the skater. Not since the ’98 Ovaltine skateboard campaign has there been a cooler skateboard spot. It’s pretty amazing what they were able to pull off here and quite entertaining.

Many people seem to be pretty pissed off that Koston agreed to this and are now labeling him a sell out. They are claiming that he has lost all his street credibility by giving in to corporate America’s aim to increase mass appeal to the mainstream society. Plus it would be pretty ironic that Koston is part of the Berrics; a site that constantly slams skateboarding in corporate images and advertising.

Personally I find the ad quite funny, hilarious actually. I especially appreciate the little details in Koston’s run around the pool when he starts off Mondo foot looking amateurish and ends his run Goofy. But I say screw what people say. He’s making a living and whatever you want to call it, Koston never compromised his integrity (despite the photo) and his personal image has stayed constant. And there is no problem bringing skateboarding into the mainstream, which it has been part of for a very long time now, as long as people do it for the right reasons. Plus Koston has been making a very nice living doing what he loves while all the haters are still earning minimum wage at Blockbuster Video.
