Van Wastell Tribute Site

As reported a couple days ago, the unfortunate news of Van Wastell’s death shocked everyone who heard about the news. Deluxe put together a tribute site for Van so that fans and friends can leave a message to their friends who they lost early. Man I dont know, how to put this into words, we lost a great person, his name is VAN WASTELL, I dont know how to scream it any louder! It’s just so sad, Im going to miss him.

My thoughts and prayers go out to him family and friends. I went into Gabe’s photos, and pulled a couple for you to see, it’s just a small glimpse into what a great person Van is.

Van Wastell Dead

Van Wastell (24) died this past weekend as he was touring with the Vans team in Berlin and accidentally fell out of a window. The details of his death are a bit unclear but what we do know is that Van was a very talented and very young skater. Van’s sponsors included Independent, Krooked, Vans, Spitfire, and Matix. The unfortunate news comes days before he was to be named the newest pro on Krooked Skateboards. Matix clothing received a phone call from a distraught Jim Thiebaud saying:

“There are some things in life you can never prepare for. I received a call from DLX’s Jim Thiebaud yesterday, his voice calm but unsteady. What he went on to tell me was seemingly unbelievable. On Friday Sept. 5th, Van Wastell fell from a Berlin hotelwindow to his death. This is devastating news for all of us here at Matix, as Van was our friend, our team rider and a close homie of mine. I don’t know what else to say other than we will miss the f*** out

Van, he will continue his journey in mind and spirit. Our hearts goes out to the Wastell family during this time of confusion and sadness. WE ALREADY MISS YOU MUCH VAN”

Vans Still Dirty South East Tour

Just last week I was talking crap about how skate teams never travel the east coast. How the west gets all the love. It probably has a lot to due with the weather and horrible terrain but another region that doesn’t get much love either is the south, also known as the “Dirty South”. And who wouldn’t love the Dirty South? Land of crunk, crunkville, Lil John, Hotlanta, Cash Money, bling, Da Nolia’s, and my favorite rapper from that region, Juvenile.

At least the Vans skate team appreciates all that and made an appearance at Humidity Skateshop in New Orleans (Go Hornets!) last weekend and will be rolling through several other southern cities. On the tour Van Wastell, Ray Barbee, Johnny Layton, and Massimo Cavedoni will be there for the entire trip but other team members will join up along the way.
